Cheat sheet
2027 contribution limits
The IRS limits for HSAs, workplace plans, IRAs and SIMPLE plans, with 2026 next to 2027. Every number comes from an IRS.gov page, linked in each row. If the IRS hasn’t published a 2027 figure yet, we say so and show the 2026 figure. We don’t guess.
Educational only, not financial advice
This page lists published IRS limits for general education, not a recommendation for you. It isn’t financial, tax or legal advice. Your plan’s own rules can be stricter, and eligibility depends on your situation. Check IRS.gov or a qualified professional before you contribute.
Where things stand on November 2, 2026
The 2027 HSA limits are out: the IRS published them in Rev. Proc. 2026-24. The 2027 401(k), IRA and SIMPLE limits are not out yet. The IRS’s own limits table still ends at 2026. Last year’s limits came in IR-2025-111 on Nov. 13, 2025. We’ll update this page when the IRS posts the 2027 figures in its newsroom.

The Roth catch-up rule for higher earners
Under SECURE 2.0, if you’re 50 or older and your FICA wages from the employer sponsoring your plan were above a set amount the year before, your workplace catch-up contributions generally have to go in as Roth (after-tax) money. For 2026 catch-ups, that amount is $150,000 of 2025 FICA wages, per Notice 2025-67. The threshold for 2027 catch-ups is not announced yet.
The IRS’s final regulations on this rule generally apply starting in 2027, with later dates for some governmental and union plans. Notice 2025-67 leaves SEP and SIMPLE IRA plans out of it. How it works in your plan depends on your plan, so ask your plan administrator. See the IRS’s catch-up contributions page for the details.
