How we make money

Investigator Finance is free to use. Here is how we hope to pay for it, and the rules we follow so that money doesn’t bend the numbers.

Commissions

Some links on this site may earn us a commission if you open an account through them. When a link works that way, we say so right next to it (“We may earn a commission”) and mark it as a sponsored link. Links with no note are plain links to the provider’s official site and pay us nothing. Today we don’t have any approved affiliate relationships, so no link on the site earns us money yet. If that changes, this page will say which providers.

What money does not touch

  • Commissions never affect the order of the directory, the sorting, or any label.
  • Commissions never affect the calculator’s math or its results.
  • We list providers that pay us nothing, and we show their fees the same way as everyone else’s.
  • A provider cannot pay to change, hide, or soften its numbers.

Where the data comes from

Fees and rates come from provider pages and other public sources, and each provider page links to the source used. We check them periodically. The current set was checked October 15, 2026. Fees change, and your employer’s plan can differ from a provider’s public account, so confirm figures with the provider before you move money. See our methodology.

Other ways we may earn

We may also accept sponsorships in the newsletter or on the site. Sponsored placements will be labeled as sponsored and kept separate from the directory data.

Not financial advice

Investigator Finance is an information guide, not a bank, broker, or advisor. Nothing here is tax, legal, or investment advice. Talk to a qualified professional about your own situation.
